But this month, I celebrate 2 years of having “Sweetlove Family Law”.
It feels like a wonderful milestone to reach and I am so proud.
But more than that, I wanted to share a little with you about my life as a family lawyer.
It is a wonderful career, and I think, one of the greatest professions in the world.
Being a family lawyer is not always easy however it is (mostly) rewarding. In my work, I am honoured and humbled to be chosen by my clients as the person they trust to help finalise their financial matters at the end of their relationship. I am honoured and humbled to be the person they trust to help formalise living arrangements for their precious children. I am humbled and honoured that people are so frank and candid with me about their private family lives after knowing me for only a few minutes.
Being a family lawyer is not only about the law and not only about family law – there are so many different elements of the law I need to know to provide the best advice.
But beyond law, I often find myself challenged to help my clients navigate this tricky minefield of emotions and I often find myself encouraging them to get help from a psychologist, when necessary, so that I can continue to give the best advice I can – and my clients can hear me, and understand me, having cleared the emotional fog that is so common to a relationship breakdown.
It has been a great honour and an enormous privilege to meet and help so many families. Over the last 10 years I have worked with many families. Some have had a significant impact on my life in one way or another – their courage, strength and resolve to move on from the past in a way that provides a positive future for themselves and their children in inspirational. And I am grateful that you keep in touch with me and update me on your lives and that of your family. It brings me such joy to know that you are happy and healthy.
So, to all of my friends, family, and colleagues, I thank you – for your support, your encouragement and for backing me in this crazy idea I had that I could start and run a family law practice with small humans and a FIFO husband as an alternative to traditional practice. I thank many of you for listening to me and letting me bounce ideas with you.
And to the wonderful families I meet almost daily, thank you most of all for trusting me with the two most important things you value in your lives, your family and your property.
